Tributes paid to RAK royal killed in motorcycle crash
Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq Al Qasimi died in an accident on Saturday afternoon
Tributes have been paid to a member of Ras Al Khaimah's royal family who died in a motorcycle crash on Saturday.
Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq Al Qasimi died in the accident at about 12.30am in the residential neighbourhood of Al Dhait, RAK Police said.
Sheikh Saqr was a first lieutenant with the force and had a keen interest in the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu
His funeral was held on Saturday at Sheikh Zayed Mosque. His body was buried in Al Qawasim Cemetery in Al Uraibi neighbourhood.
Many well-wishers have offered their condolences and praise for his achievements.
“The UAE Federation of Jiu-Jitsu mourns the death of Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq bin Kayed Al Qasimi with grief and sorrow, asking Allah the Almighty to grant him mercy and rest his soul in Paradise,” said the federation on Twitter.
Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, assistant under-secretary for arts and heritage at Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, noting that Sheikh Saqr's death coincided with Commemoration Day, said he had served the country with distinction.
“On the anniversary of the day we bid farewell to our finest men, the martyrs who wrote the highest values of sacrifice and loyalty in defence of the homeland, we bid farewell to Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq Al Qasimi,” tweeted Sheikh Salem.
“He served his country with all sincerity and dedication at the police department and was morally and athletically distinguished.”
Another social media user said that Sheikh Saqr will leave a lasting legacy.
“He passed away, leaving a deep trace of sincere love in the hearts of those around him,” said Buttay Al Falah.
“We pray to Allah Almighty to rest his soul in paradise and grant him his mercy and forgiveness, and grant patience and solace to his family.”
