A woman sustained serious injuries in a crash on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai just three hours after the speed limit on the road had been reduced to 110kph.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was severely injured when she slammed into a lorry at 3am on Sunday.

“The Egyptian woman was driving a Jeep and crashed into a lorry due to not leaving a safe distance and overspeeding. The lorry driver stopped on the hard shoulder due to technical failure two minutes before the accident occurred,” said Brig Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai traffic police, who described the crash as a major one.

“The main cause of the accident was not keeping a safe distance, overspeeding and the woman was driving on the hard shoulder.”
