One national service recruit died and four others were seriously injured after their vehicle caught fire due to an accident on Emirates Road on Thursday.

The five recruits were travelling to Ajman from a military training camp when their vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a concrete barrier. The vehicle overturned several times and caught fire.

Sharjah Police said that they received a report about the accident at 1:45pm on Thursday.

Lt Col Khalid Al Kee, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah police, said that the five young men were stuck in the burning vehicle after the accident.

“The rescue team managed to control the fire and pull them out of the burning car, four of them suffered from severe injuries and were immediately transferred to Al Qasimi hospital,” said Lt Col Al Kee.

“While a helicopter from the Ministry of Interior air wing was called to transfer the fifth one who was in critical condition but he died before reaching the hospital,” he said.

The funeral of the deceased, identified as Munir Al Baloushi, will be held after Friday prayers at Al Jurf Cemetery Mosque in Ajman.
