Two people were seriously injured in an accident involving two cars on Abu Dhabi — Al Ain Road on Tuesday morning.

Abu Dhabi Police said a preliminary investigation showed that the accident, which happened just before the flyover to Al Nahda in the direction of Al Ain, was caused by one of the motorists suddenly swerving. The driver of the following car hit the first from behind and both struck a metal roadside guardrail.

An image from the scene, provided by police, showed a white Toyota sedan skewered by the metal safety barrier.

The bar seemingly pierced the car through the bonnet and came out through the back right door and blood was seen spilt on one of the seats.

Both drivers were taken to Mafraq Hospital.

Police called on motorists to be alert while driving and adhere to speed limits.
