Abu Dhabi commuters are battling traffic gridlock with lengthy delays gripping major routes in the city.

Congestion is building throughout the emirate, with tailbacks covering several kilometres.

Heavy traffic is stretching from the Khalifa Park area, near Brighton College Abu Dhabi, for close to 10km on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road.

A vehicle stopped on the road is contributing to the traffic woe.

It is more motoring misery on a busy day on the UAE's roads.

Drivers have also had to contend with holdups on their way to Wednesday's Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan in Dubai.
