Motorists in Dubai have been warned to expect traffic delays in Jumeirah Lakes Towers during the Sunday morning commute due to emergency repair works.

Vehicles were bumper to bumper in the popular residential and business hub on Saturday afternoon as roadworks caused standstill traffic in some areas.

Motorists were backed up for hundreds of metres near Damac Metro station, according to several posts on social media. Heavy traffic was also reported along the ring road from cluster O to cluster V.

In a tweet on Saturday, the Roads and Transport Authority warned commuters of the road disruptions.

“The RTA announces a temporary traffic diversion in Jumeirah Lakes Towers for maintenance works on a malfunctioning pipe of the Emirates Foundation for Central Cooling Systems serving the area,” the tweet read.

“We kindly ask drivers to be cautious and to follow the sign boards.”

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority, the free zone that operates in JLT, also tweeted about the heavy tailbacks. It said they could continue into Sunday morning.

“Scheduled works by @rta_dubai and Empower are ongoing resulting in a partial road closure.

“We have been advised by authorities that continued traffic congestion may be expected Sunday morning in #JLT from clusters O to W. We are in close contact with @rta_dubai for further updates.”

A number of motorists aired their frustrations on social media after getting caught up in the congestion.

Twitter user, @uditss, was just one of many.

“Crazy #traffic in #JLT from Cluster O to Cluster W. Almost standstill. #Dubai.”

While @McGrathPad wrote: “@DMCCAuthority please manage the traffic in JLT. Total grid lock. It has taken one hour to drive from Cluster S to get past the roadworks [just] one kilometer #chaos.”
