DUBAI// Toyota is recalling more than 8,000 of its Camry and Aurion models in the UAE because of a potential fault that can cause wear of the fuel hose.

The models affected are from 2012 and an awareness campaign has been launched urging owners to come forward.

In total 7,928 Camry models and 319 Aurion units are involved.

The cars are popular with taxi companies in the UAE, who plan to take “the necessary action if it is required”.

"We have already sent a request to Al-Futtaim Motors to give us a report to find out what the impact will be on Dubai taxis,” said Yousef Al Ali, the chief executive of Dubai Taxi Corporation.

"Following communication with Toyota Motor Corporation, we have begun a customer service campaign on 7,928 units 2012 year model Camry vehicles, and 319 units of 2012 year model Aurion vehicles," said Simon Frith, managing director of Al Futtaim Motors in a statement this morning.

"Toyota Motor Corporation has informed us that there is a possibility that the fuel hose that connects the main fuel supply line to the engine may have become wrinkled during connector insertion, and in rare cases could result in abnormal wear of the fuel hose."

He said the repair service operation will begin on August 12 and the company will contact its customers directly to book an appointment.

"All vehicles will require a 45 minute inspection; however Toyota Motor Corporation has advised that only a small number of vehicles will require any components to be replaced," he said.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank our customers for their patience and understanding."

He stressed that inconvenience will kept to a minimum and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

If customers have further questions they are advised to contact Al Futtaim's customer care team on 04-2066002 (between 8am and 6pm Saturday to Thursday).
