SHARJAH // A motorist had to be rescued after his car plunged off a bridge into Khalid Lake in Sharjah on Tuesday.
The Asian man, who is in his thirties, sustained moderate injuries after an Arab motorist, in his twenties, lost control of his vehicle on Al Khan bridge and rammed into the former’s car, causing him to hit the metal barrier and fall into the lake.
Sharjah Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 5.10pm and took the Asian man to Kuwait Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, coast guards pulled out his car, which had sunk 5 metres into the lake.
A preliminary police report concluded that the accident was caused by speeding.
The case was referred to Al Buheira police station for further investigation.
Sharjah Police urged motorists to abide by speed limits and not to get distracted on the road.
