Road closures in Dubai this weekend for Spinneys 92 Cycle
Roads will be temporarily closed as 2,500 cyclists take part
Several key roads will be closed across Dubai on Friday to make way for thousands of cyclists.
More than 2,500 cyclists are expected to take part in the tenth Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge. This year, the route has been extended to 100km.
Participants will take to the roads and streets in Dubai from 6am to 11am on Friday morning to help raise money for the Al Jalila Foundation. Road closures will begin from 5.45am and the challenge will start and end at the Dubai Autodrome in Motor City.
“This year’s extended route will have a significant impact on the road closure and opening times,” organisers said.
“To ensure the safety of both the cyclists as well as the residents of Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police will implement rolling road closures along the route.”
Cyclists will pedal through main roads such as Hessa Street, Al Khail Road, Expo site roundabout and Al Khamila Street.
Given that it is the start of the long UAE National Day weekend, organisers urged residents to check the road closures timetable to ensure that travel arrangements, especially to the city’s airports, can be arranged ahead of time.
“We understand the impact of the road closures and thank you for sharing your streets for the day.
“Your co-operation helps to make a difference to the safety of cyclists and their loved ones.”
Traffic disruption will begin from 5.45am, lasting until around 10.45am, and will affect areas around Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Sports City and Motor City.
For those taking part in the impressive 100km cycle, parking is located in the large sand lot next to the Dubai Autodrome and Emirates NBD in Dubai Motor City.
