A much-loved landmark in Ras Al Khaimah has been returned to its rightful place, nine months after it was removed for renovation.
The traditional, old dhow that once adorned a roundabout in the emirate was seen back in its spot on Sunday, after being given a fresh coat of paint.
Residents and Emiratis were quick to notice its absence in October last year, taking to social media to share their concerns that the dhow was being permanently removed and posting videos of the ship being lifted by a crane.
On Saturday, Ras Al Khaimah's public services department posted a video of the dhow - named Al Boom Boat - being returned to the roundabout using a crane.
The department said the dhow has been one of the emirate’s landmarks for many years and the maintenance work was carried out to "increase the efficiency and sustainability of public assets".
“The department has completed the maintenance of the famous boat, which is located in the middle of a vital roundabout in the heart of Ras Al Khaimah,” is said.
