A video circulating on social media that shows speed cameras in Sharjah being destroyed by a shooter is six years old, police have said.

The video, that resurfaced online, was of an incident that took place in November 2012 and has since been dealt with, police said.

"All legal proceedings have been taken against the perpetrators and brought to the hands of justice," a statement on Twitter from police said.

Sharjah Police's General Command called on the public not to circulate such videos because they could have a "negative impact on general security".

Some 11 speed cameras were shot at the time and a month later, two more were damaged by gunshots on the Al Dhaid-Sharjah Road.
