The Federal Traffic Council has recommended linking drivers’ traffic-file information with their Emirates ID cards by giving both sets of records the same identification number.

Synchronising drivers’ traffic files with ID card numbers would make it easier for customers to complete transactions in any emirate, the council said.

Maj Gen Mohammed Al Zafeen, head of the Federal Traffic Council and deputy chief commander for operational affairs at Dubai Police, said the council had finalised drafts of the recommendations and was expecting suggestions on the possibility of adding new texts that correspond with the developments and requirements of traffic security, reported Wam, the state news agency.

A traffic-file number is one of the verifications required when attempting to pay fines online. The number is found on the back of your driving licence.

Maj Gen Al Zafeen added that the council had issued recommendations to be submitted to the higher committee for policies and strategies headed by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to take the final decision.

He noted that Sheikh Saif had given clear directives for unifying traffic-related procedures in all emirates, aiming to eliminate any deficiencies or differences in regulations or application.

Maj Gen Al Zafeen pointed out that members of the council and directors of traffic departments had unanimously approved these recommendations.

Mechanisms to implement the recommendations will be coordinated with the relevant authorities in each emirate, he said.
