DUBAI // A man was found bleeding heavily in the toilet of an Emirates aircraft shortly before the plane was due to land in India.

The Indian national was flying on flight EK526 from Dubai to Hyderabad, a spokesman for the airline said.

“A passenger was found by cabin crew bleeding heavily in the rest room just before descent,” he said.

“Crew administered all the necessary treatment on board. Upon arrival in Hyderabad, the passenger was met by medical crews and taken to a nearby hospital.”

Local media reported that the incident, on Friday, was being treated as a suspected suicide attempt.

The New Indian Express newspaper quoted sources as saying the man had slit his throat and wrists with a razor.

The Emirates spokesman said the aircraft was flown back to Dubai for maintenance and a replacement was provided for passengers.
