One man has died and six were injured following two traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi late on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Yousif Al Suwaidi, deputy director of traffic at Abu Dhabi Police, said initial investigations suggested tailgating was the cause of the collisions.

He urged motorists to keep a safe distance between vehicles and warned road users not to block emergency services from reaching the scene of an accident.

Six people are understood to have suffered minor injuries in a crash involving four vehicles on Airport Road while a driver involved in a second, three vehicle crash, died.

Reports suggested the dead motorist may have been a recovery truck driver.
