Smartphone users can now recharge their parking accounts by using a wireless tag on their nol cards on Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority app.

The service currently only operates on Androids and uses the wireless link feature available on Nol cards.

The new service helps motorists who avail of public parking in Dubai to pay parking fees through the e-parking application after topping it up using nol or fare cards. The application reduces the need of motorists to pay at the parking machine.

This is in addition to other payment methods such as cash, text messages, nol card, prepaid card and mobile app.

“This service complements the use of nol card as part of available and future payment means of parking fees,” said Maitha bin Adai, chief executive of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

“The nol card had been used in buying parking tickets through parking machines since 2009. The objective of this smart service is to enhance a plan for improving parking services on smart apps and maximising the satisfaction of car parking users.”

The application is part of the smart city initiative of the Dubai government.
