More than 2,000 cases of illegal taxi drivers offering unlicensed transport services have been reported to police in Abu Dhabi since the start of the year.
Police have warned that offenders - who are using private cars as illegal taxis - will face a Dh3,000 fine, have their vehicle seized for 30 days and will receive 24 black points if caught out.
"Since the beginning of the year, 2,198 such offences have been reported in Abu Dhabi, including using private cars as illegal taxis and driving unlicensed vehicles," said Brig Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Chief of Abu Dhabi traffic police.
Brig Al Zaabi said that taxi drivers must be licensed.
Police in the capital have carried out awareness campaigns this year to highlight the dangers of driving passengers illegally.
