A man died and two others were injured in a lorry accident on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai on Sunday.

Police said the driver lost control of the over-loaded vehicle and crashed into the roundabout. The crash tipped the lorry on to its side.

The front seat passenger died as a result of the impact and the man in the back seat was taken, along with the driver, to Rashid Hospital.

Police have repeatedly urged construction and transport companies to avoid overloading vehicles, which have been linked to large number of accidents.

Some road safety experts have even called for commercial vehicles to be scrapped after 20 years, such is the high rate of faults.

Two years ago, Dubai's roads authority said half of the lorries that they inspected had failed a safety test.
