A taxi driver has been praised for handing a bag of lost money in to police.

Muhammad Nazem found a suitcase full of cash in his car. It later turned out it had been left there by Bismark Ferreira, a Brazilian footballer who plays for Khor Fakkan Club in the Arabian Gulf League.

"I saw the money bag left on the back seat," said Mr Nazem. "I rushed to the nearest police station and handed the bag [in].

"They told me they'd call me later."

Two days later, he was surprised to see a delegation from Dubai Police arrive at his workplace to thank him.

"I felt really proud of what I'd done," he said.

Ferreira, a forward, is on loan at Khor Fakkan from Saudi club Al Qadsiah.

His value in the football transfer market is estimated to be around €2 million (Dh8.1m) according to the website transfermarkt.

This week, a Starbucks employee from the Philippines was honoured for going out of her way to return nearly Dh200,000, left by a customer in a Dubai Mall branch to its rightful owner.
