Guidelines have been issued for people wishing to decorate their cars to celebrate the 46th National Day on December 2.

Motorists will be able to do so between November 22 and December 6, according to Abu Dhabi Police.

Car owners are not allowed to change a vehicle’s colour, add noisy accessories, obscure licence plates and cover the windscreen, said Brig Khalifa Al Khaili, director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate.

Drivers cannot carry more than the permitted number of people and passengers cannot stick any body part out of the vehicle’s windows or sunroof.

Drivers are also not permitted to obstruct traffic, rev their engines or drift.

Pedestrians have also been warned against jaywalking and spraying paint on drivers.

Brig Al Khaili said the Traffic and Patrols Directorate said it would increase camera and radar monitoring around the time of the celebrations in the city, Al Ain and Western Regions to ensure no offences are committed and keep traffic flowing smoothly.

“All segments of society to contribute positively by adhering to the traffic rules and regulations to celebrate the event under the slogan "To Celebrate Spirit of the Union without Irregularities",” he said.

Brig Al Khaili called on motorists to comply with these guidelines for the safety and well-being of society.
