A father and his 11-year-old son were killed, while two of his other children were injured, in a fatal collision in Ras Al Khaimah.

Ras Al Khaimah police said in a statement that the accident was reported at 3:20pm on Thursday after which police and rescue teams rushed to the scene on Rashis street near City Center in Al Thait area.

“The 66-year-old father, holding a Comoros Islands passport, made a U-turn without making sure that there were no cars coming from there other direction,” said Brigadier Moahmmed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the operations room in RAK police.

He added that the driver of the other car, a 21-year-old Emirati was not able to avoid the deceased’s vehicle.

The crash claimed the lives of the father and his son,11 while his two other sons, aged 12 and 14 sustained minor injuries.

The Emirati driver suffered moderate injuries, he said adding that the bodies of the dead were taken to hospital to be later delivered to the family while the injured are still receiving treatment.

He urged motorists to pay attention to the road and abide by traffic rules.
