A family of four were rescued by Dubai Police after their boat sailed into shallow waters this weekend.

The maritime rescue team were alerted to the incident at 8pm and rushed to retrieve the family from beneath Business Bay Crossing near Festival City.

Lt Col Ali Al Naqbi, Head of Maritime Rescue at Dubai Police, said a family member was injured and taken to the nearest hospital while rescue teams worked to retrieve the boat and tow it to shore.

He said the boat became stuck because the family did not sail along an approved passage beneath the bridge, instead sailing along the far right while the tide was low.

Lt Col Al Naqbi said sailors should be up to speed on all safety procedures, must use the correct pathways and ensure they have satellite phones on board before setting sail.
