ABU DHABI // Etihad Rail has signed a strategic agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority to secure station locations and define contractual and operational responsibilities.

Etihad Rail has committed to conducting technical studies and presenting the findings in architectural reports and blueprints to government authorities in Dubai.

The RTA will assign representatives to coordinate issuing no-objection certificates for road works required by Etihad Rail.

“We are delighted to cooperate with the RTA and sign this agreement which will assist Etihad Rail to develop the national rail network of the UAE on time,” said Nasser Al Suwaidi, Etihad Rail chairman.

“Etihad Rail will constitute an essential part of the UAE’s future transport infrastructure and this agreement marks an important step in realising this goal,” said Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s executive director. The network will span approximately 1,200 km across the UAE transporting freight and passengers.
