Emirati man arrested for reckless driving during bout of heavy rain in Dubai
Footage of the man driving at high-speed in a residential area was posted on social media
An Emirati motorist caught in a social media storm after driving recklessly during a bout of torrential rain at the weekend has been arrested by Dubai Police.
Footage of the man performing 'doughnuts" - in which a car is driven in circles at high speed - in a residential area was viewed by thousands of people after being posted online.
The Dubai force launched a probe into the footage and soon tracked down the suspected culprit.
Police said the case has been referred to prosecutors for further investigation.
The deluge in Dubai caused roads to be flooded on Saturday, with pools of standing water still proving a hazard for many motorists on Monday.
Residents also witnessed a dramatic display of thunder and lightning which lit up the night sky during a barrage of extreme weather which lasted for several hours.
