DUBAI // After almost 13,000 personal belongings were reported missing in taxis last year, Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have launched the "Remember" initiative in the hopes of improving customer satisfaction.

Reports of lost items in taxis peaked in 2010 with 27,705 cases, of which 15 per cent were recovered. The recovery rate climbed to 28.8 per cent in 2011, and 40 per cent of last year's 12,811 items were recovered.

Among the more unusual items recovered was a briefcase full of money and jewellery returned to a Saudi tourist last September by a Pakistani taxi driver.

DTC officials will visit Dubai Airports, hotels, malls and open markets, to explain the idea behind the Remember initiative.

They will also encourage passengers to make suggestions, observations or report cases by contacting the RTA Call Center (8009090) or visiting either www.dubaitaxi.ae or www.rta.ae.
