Dubai's Al Sufouh Tram safety plans revealed
DUBAI // Ways to protect drivers and pedestrians when the Al Sufouh Tram becomes operational were discussed at a meeting between Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority this week.
A fence will separate pedestrian access to the tram all along the track and signal crossings will be provided near each station. Six footbridges will also be erected.
Where the tram line and roads intersect, the roads will be elevated to tramway height and barriers and signals will be erected to monitor the safe crossing of cars.
Police and the RTA also reviewed draft legislation regarding the tram system's operation. Among the points listed, motorists involved in minor accidents on or near the tram track will be told to move their vehicles a safe distance.
Both parties agreed to give priority to tram movement at the intersection points, however priority will be given to police, ambulance and civil defence vehicles during emergency situations.
