A tanker driver was injured after a tyre burst and he lost control of the lorry in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The vehicle flipped over spilt diesel at the scene of the accident, Abu Dhabi police said.

The tanker was heading towards Dubai, near Al Rawda bridge, Al Reef, when one of its tyres burst and the vehicle lost balance.

Abu Dhabi police quickly secured the accident site and ensured the diesel did not spread any further, to avoid putting any other motorists at risk.

The driver, who suffered only minor injuries in the incident, was transferred to the nearest hospital and has already been discharged after receiving treatment.

Lt Col Musallam Al Junaibi, head of severe accidents for external roads in Abu Dhabi traffic police, said primary investigations have shown that the accident was due to a technical fault in the tyre.

He reminded motorists to check their tyres amid the summer heat which increases the risk of them bursting.
