Crash near Dubai International Airport adds to heavy traffic in old city

A crash on Airport Road in Dubai added to heavy lunchtime congestion on Monday, with police urging drivers to steer clear of the area if possible.

A lorry was involved in an accident shortly before midday, Dubai Police said.

Google Maps showed congestion in all major roads and interchanges in Deira and Garhoud on Monday lunchtime.

The day started with problems when accidents delayed motorists on the Sharjah Maliha Road, and the Business Bay exit on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi around rush hour.

Heavy traffic was also reported on Emirates Road near the Khawaneej area, Dubai Investments Park, Discovery Gardens, and International City in Dubai.

Congestion in Sharjah slowed commuters on the Maliha Kalba Road, in Industrial Area 11 and near the National Paints Factory. Traffic clogged roads in Abu Dhabi after the Sweihan Bridge toward the capital and on the E20 International Airport road after Khalifa city.
