ABU DHABI // Ride-hailing app Careem is rolling out its cash payment option in Abu Dhabi, it was announced today.

This comes after an announcement in February that Careem was resuming full service in the capital with instant and scheduled rides.

Its services are the Careem Limo (Lexus cars) and Careem MiniVan (Toyota Previas), with a minimum fare of Dh40.

In 2013 Saudi Arabia was the first market into which Careem introduced cash payment because of the heavy cash-based economy.

“Abu Dhabi is a key city for us and it’s great to be back as the only players in the market,” said Bassel Al Nahlaoui, vice president, business development and government relations at Careem.

“Giving our valued customers the opportunity to pay with cash provides them with more flexibility around how they use the service. If cash is king for people in Abu Dhabi, then for sure let’s make it easy for them to pay for their rides this way.”
