Boat and jetski slipway opens underneath Abu Dhabi's 'bridge to nowhere'
Facility on Hudayriat island is one of three announced by Abu Dhabi Municipality and is part of a public-private partnership
Three new boat and jetski slipways have opened in Abu Dhabi including one on Hudayriat Island.
The 3,500 square metre slipway area on Hudayriat is located underneath the striking suspension bridge.
Loading and offloading of boats and jet skis is free of charge if owners do it themselves or they can pay Dh100 to have the operator do it.
If you want to keep your boats or jet skis at this site, it will cost about Dh15,000 a year, Abu Dhabi Municipality said.
The bridge from Abu Dhabi to the island is a striking part of the Abu Dhabi skyline.
Plans are under way to develop Hudayriat Island which is expected to add 30 kilometres of waterfront, along with housing for Emiratis, plus commercial and leisure use but much construction has not yet taken place yet.
The slipway is part of a larger complex at Hudayriat including a security office, a workshop, retail stores and a mosque. Construction work is still taking place.
The news was announced by the municipality on Saturday where it also announced new slipways at Mina Zayed and Abu Dhabi Gate. Both are now open to the public but improvement works are being made at the site and it's envisaged they will be complete by the end of the year.
