More than 2,400 drivers who exceeded the 24 black-point limit had their licences revoked in the UAE last year, The National's sister paper Al Ittihad reported today.
For those affected, the Ministry of Interior offers a "federal rehabilitation programme" to help motorists shed some of their points.
Drivers are given further education, allowing them to lose eight black points, according to Lt Col Suleiman Abdullah Al Darei, head of police follow-up at the Interior Minister's office.
However, the programme will close on January 31.
In 2012, 1,181 motorists attended the programme - 779 of them from Abu Dhabi, 356 from Dubai and the rest from the other emirates.
