DUBAI // The Roads and Transport Authority has announced plans to widen Umm Suqeim Road at a cost of Dh167 million.

The project is an extension of the Dh1.925billion expansion of the Al Khail Road that will be completed in phases.

All key flyovers of the Al Khail interchanges are expected to open by the end of the year, while some bridges will be completed in the first half of 2013.

Flyovers will be built at the intersection on the stretch between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road to distribute traffic and prevent congestion on busy roads. Two flyovers with three lanes in each direction will be built in the corridor of the Al Asayel Road and Al Khail Road 1.

The RTA will add service roads and car parks near business outlets for showrooms in Al Barsha and the Al Quoz Industrial Area.

Safety levels will also be improved with pavements and two pedestrian crossings.
