Towering clouds and some rain forecast for UAE

The clouds will bring in some rain and wind activity over the mountains and in the northern part of the UAE.

ABU DHABI // Forecasters have warned of towering clouds and a chance of rain in northern areas of the country on Wednesday.

The clouds will bring in some rain and wind activity over the mountains and in the northern part of the UAE, according to the duty forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Temperatures are likely to decrease over inland areas and moderate to fresh winds will develop over the sea.

Blowing sand and dust is likely, reducing visibility at times over inland areas.

Today, there were strong winds and thunder activity over the sea in western areas of the country.

"No rain was recorded today except for some clouds that developed to towering clouds over the mountains and in the northern areas," the forecaster said.

NCMS had predicted that the instability of the weather would continue during the day with a chance of towering clouds associated with rain, leading to a thunderstorm in the northern and eastern areas of the country.

This was accompanied by moderate to strong winds and rising dust, resulting in low visibility and rough seas.

The weather bureau had warned motorists to be cautious due to poor visibility caused by the sandstorm.

Fishermen have also been asked to be careful when venturing out at sea. Waves of up to 2.1 metres are likely.

Temperatures decreased gradually around coastal areas on Monday, with highs of between 31°C and 35°C, and between 34°C and 37°C inland.
