DUBAI // Many of the country’s top government ministers attended the start of a two-day retreat on Saturday to discuss the UAE’s future post-oil.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, were among attendees at the Bab Al Shams Resort in Dubai.

Ministers looked at the current state of the UAE economy by reviewing the GDP growth rates since 1980, and the contribution of oil and non-oil sectors, state news agency Wam reported.

In 1980, the UAE’s GDP was Dh555 billion but by 2014 that figure had risen to Dh1,155bn.

One session was dedicated to highlighting opportunities for the development of the vital non-oil sectors to contribute to strengthening the UAE’s position globally. Another session discussed future scenarios for the UAE economy.
