DUBAI // A security guard who stole more than Dh50,000 from his colleagues has been sentenced to three months in prison.
YA, 42, an Emirati working at the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, stole Dh25,000 from one colleague, Dh20,000 from another and Dh11,000 from a third. He also stole a laptop computer and a BlackBerry and sold the devices to a shop.
The thefts occurred in July and the guard was arrested after one of his colleagues reported the thefts to police.
He told prosecutors that he stole the money because he was encountering financial difficulties. He had been working with the authority for three years.
The Criminal Court convicted him on a charge of theft.
