Three people have been released on bail following the drowning of a four-year-old boy at a school swimming pool.
Police officers said the child’s teacher, a swimming instructor and a life guard were all under investigation following the death in Sharjah.
The Emirati pupil was found unconscious and fully clothed in the pool shortly after finishing a swimming class.
Staff had asked all the children to leave the pool to get changed but the young boy had returned without being noticed.
He was rushed to Al Qasimi hospital where he died shortly after arrival. His mother, whose four other children attend the same school, collapsed in shock.
On Wednesday, a report issued by the Ministry of Education's investigation committee blamed the tragedy on inadequate safety precautions.
It noted that the Olympic-sized pool had been left unlocked following the swimming lesson.
The three members of staff are understood to be accused of negligence. Prosecutors in Sharjah said they had received Dh200,000 in blood money.
