The new cameras, positioned according to accident and traffic violation figures, will be set off at 140kph.
Thirty speed cameras set up on Dubai-Al Ain road
ABU DHABI // The police's traffic and patrols directorate has set up 30 new speed cameras on the new Al Ain to Dubai road.
"The locations of these speed cameras were determined in proportion to accident and traffic violation figures, so as to curb excess speeds and other factors that lead to accidents," said Maj Mohsen Saeed Al Mansouri, the head of traffic and patrols in Al Ain. "Road accidents [have] a human and economic cost, and severe social effects."
The cameras are set off at 140kph, said Maj Al Mansouri.
"In many locations and instances, setting up speed cameras has proven efficient in forcing speeds down to reasonable levels," he added.
Maj Al Mansouri also urged motorists to drive safely and adhere to speed limits.
