Thief falls five floors to his death in botched burglary

Police identify burglar after finding stolen wallet in his pocket

A thief who repeatedly stole from apartment tenants over a series of months fell to his death in a burglary that went wrong.

Dubai Police said the man in his twenties slipped while trying to jump between balconies on the fifth floor of a residential block in the city.

Officers called to the scene said they discovered what had happened when the man was found in possession of a wallet that did not belong to him.

Detectives later identified a sample of his blood on the balcony of an apartment where he had taken the wallet. He had slipped and fallen while trying to escape.

On Thursday, offices revealed the incident had happened in the Al Warsan area of Dubai earlier this month. Forensic experts found blood and hair samples on the balcony where the victim hit his head before falling.

Tenants of the block said the reoccurring thefts had caused numerous arguments among residents.

Unaware that the real thief worked in a restaurant on the ground floor of the block, many suspected each other of committing the crimes.
