The National announces Future of News journalism competition
Our contest invites any student aged 16-21 to produce a journalistic article or video that looks at the dynamics impacting the future of news
The National is inviting students to participate in our Future of News competition for aspiring young journalists.
We at The National will spend the next 12 months delving into what the future holds for a variety of sectors as well as areas of infrastructure and social development. The National will discuss scenarios of the unknown, and its implications on how we live today, the decisions we make, and the role we all play in shaping our shared future.
But even our own industry is not exempt from a rapid growth and transformation. In just the past 10 years, digital news platforms have usurped print, social media has grown into a powerful news platform, and video is commonplace as a storytelling medium on nearly every news site.
So what’s next?
Our contest invites any student aged 16-21 to produce a journalistic article or video (complete with interviews) that looks at the dynamics impacting the future of news. The specific area of discovery is entirely up to the entrant, but examples of possible topics include ‘how to combat fake news’, ‘best social platform to reach wider audiences’, and ‘AI impact on journalism’.

A panel of The National’s senior editors will serve as the jury. The submissions will be judged on the quality of the reporting, the writing style, clarity and syntax, and the overall originality and creativity of the chosen topic.
Submissions will be open from July 1, 2018, to Aug. 31, 2018, with the winner being announced on Sept. 16, 2018. Articles can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org and should include the entrants full name, age, address and telephone number.
The winning article will be published on thenational.ae. The winner will also receive a subscription to the printed edition, and the opportunity to spend one week as our guest inside The National, participating in news planning and shadowing reporters and editors.
