Terrapins dumped on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road get new home

Four terrapins dumped outside Dubai Garden Centre have been given a new home in Jebel Ali.

DUBAI // Stories about abandoned dogs are all too common in the UAE, but the latest pets to be dumped on Sheikh Zayed Road were quite unusual.

Four terrapins were left outside Dubai Garden Centre and made their way into an extension containing plants, where staff found them.

"Sometimes people buy them when they're babies thinking they're going to be cute," said Bodhi Brandes, who runs the centre's aquarium. "But they get big, and then people don't know what to do with them so they let them go." Developer Limitless gave the terrapins a new home in the pond at The Galleries, a project in Jebel Ali.
