Teenager who repeatedly stabbed policeman gets three months in jail

Officer says he was trying to break up a fight when he was attacked.

DUBAI // A 19-year-old accused of attempting to kill a policeman by stabbing him repeatedly in the chest, back and abdomen was sentenced to three months in jail at Dubai Criminal Court on Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors said the victim, 20-year-old HA, was at a mobile devices shop in Al Baraha when the incident happened on the night of April 28 last year.

The victim was inside the shop when the attacker came in with three other men.

β€œHe started fighting with one of the three friends, so I tried to break up the fight,” said HA.

He recalled that, when he tried to leave the shop, defendant KA followed him and pulled a knife out from under his clothing. The attacker stabbed the policeman in the back but KA followed him up a nearby alleyway, where he was repeatedly stabbed.

The victim managed to exit the alley and call for police before he was taken to Rashid Hospital.

Court records mention that the policeman has been referred to the misdemeanours court but they did not clarify the nature of charges against him.

At court last December KA, was not present to enter a plea but he was present to receive his sentence on Wednesday.
