Teacher faces charges of improper touching

An Iraqi school teacher allegedly accosted an Emirati girl in the school's kitchen, where she had gone to fill up a hot water bottle.

DUBAI // A 54-year-old Iraqi school teacher appeared before Dubai's Criminal Court of First Instance yesterday, accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old female pupil at a school in the Qusais district. According to the Public Prosecution's report, the defendant, SH, accosted the Emirati girl in the school's kitchen, where she had gone to fill up a hot water bottle. The defendant had approached the victim, asking her why she needed the hot water bottle, the report said. When she replied that she had a stomach ache, he had kissed her on the cheek, prosecutors alleged, and offered her free biology tutoring at home.

He then gave her his phone number and asked her to kiss him on the mouth, prosecutors said. The girl kissed him once on the cheek, according to the report, and attempted to leave. SH then allegedly grabbed her and kissed her again. The victim started crying and escaped from the kitchen. She mentioned the incident to her sister, who informed the school, which then reported it to the police. SH remains in police custody. His case was postponed until August 31.
