Swiss radio festival gets its first Arab radio station

Star FM – owned by Abu Dhabi Media, owner of The National – will broadcast its daily morning programme, Sabaho, live on three days of the event, which runs from September 4 to 8.

ABU DHABI // A UAE radio station will be the first Arab channel to take part in the International Radio Festival in Switzerland – and will broadcast in Arabic.

Star FM – owned by Abu Dhabi Media, owner of The National – will broadcast its daily morning programme, Sabaho, live on three days of the event, which runs from September 4 to 8.

The station, which launched in 2009, is taking part alongside  several dozen international stations, from countries including Australia, China, Germany, India, Russia, Switzerland, the UK and the US, reported state news agency Wam.

Rania Younis and Hassan Al Sheikh will present from Switzerland and the UAE respectivelyon Thursday, September 5, from 7am to 12pm, and from 6pm to 8pm the following two days.

“Our participation in the festival allows us the opportunity to highlight the progress that Arab media has accomplished, particularly in the UAE,” said Abdul Rahman Al Harthi, the executive director of Abu Dhabi Radio Network.

“It also provides us with the ability to familiarise other participants at the festival with Abu Dhabi Media, and showcase the high quality content that it delivers across its various channels.

“This will play a role in connecting Abu Dhabi to the world and will contribute to the vast social and economic development taking place in the UAE.”
