Dubai // Police have arrested the "prime suspect" in the stabbing of a 25-year-old Iranian medical student in an underground car park. Anooshka Khudabakhshi was attacked in the basement of her building on April 8 by a man who stabbed her twice in the back. She was admitted to Rashid hospital with serious injuries.

Police arrested and questioned a number of Asian men who matched a description given by Ms Khudabakhshi, and she identified one of them as her attacker at the Bur Dubai police station. "The attacker was unmasked so I can identify him," she said. A police CID source added: "One of the suspects caught recently appears to be the prime suspect in the case." Ms Khudabakhshi now plans to move back to Iran as a result of the attack.

"I don't feel safe here any more," she said. "I'll return to take my exams in a few months but for now I'm leaving for Iran." rabubaker@thenational.ae pmenon@thenational.ae
