Superheroes boost festival attendance

From July 20 to 29, SpongeBob SquarePants will take over with a solo show called Stories of SpongeBob.

ABU DHABI // Stage productions featuring Dora the Explorer and comic-book superheroes and villains have pushed attendance at the Summer in Abu Dhabi festival above 30,000, according to organisers.

The Show World line-up, which began yesterday, runs until July 19. Organisers hope the event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), which also includes Smurf World and performances by cartoon stars of the programmes The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory, will draw more than 70,000 visitors.

The Show World productions - Dora and the Big Piñata and Thor, with special guests Wolverine, Captain America and Dr Doom - run twice daily from Sunday to Thursday in the 120-capacity theatre at Adnec, and three times daily at weekends.

From July 20 to 29, SpongeBob SquarePants will take over with a solo show called Stories of SpongeBob.

Entrance to Show World is free with a festival ticket and guests are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry is Dh20 for children under 12 and Dh40 for adults, while toddlers under two are admitted for free.

The festival runs from 3pm-9pm on weekdays and 2pm-10pm at weekends. It ends on August 18.
