Twenty students have returned to Abu Dhabi after a five-week microchip manufacturing course in Germany. The state news agency, WAM, reported that the male and female students underwent a five-week internship in Dresden this summer, thanks to a grant by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. They returned this week.
The initiative was sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) as part of a plan to encourage high-achieving engineering students to get practical training in the manufacturing of computer chips. Adec partnered with the Advanced Technology Investment Company and Technology Development Committee to place the students in the GlobalFoundries semiconductor works in Dresden. newsdesk@thenational.ae
