A student fell to his death from a university building on Wednesday.

According to Dubai Police, the 19-year-old Indian student fell from the fifth floor of the Murdoch University building at Dubai International Academic City, where he was enrolled.

Police said they were investigating the death as a potential suicide.

Daniel Adkins, chief executive at Transnational Academic Group, the company that manages the university, said police would issue a report on the death.

“When police investigations are complete, an appropriate report will be released. The criminal investigation department at Dubai Police is taking statements from everyone involved,” he said.

“No one from our faculty staff witnessed the incident,” said Mr Adkins, who expressed his condolences to the family.

“University students and the victims’ classmates are shocked by the tragic death of their university mate, just like any other human beings would be in such incidents,” he said.

On Wednesday, the university issued a statement on its social media outlets confirming that a student had died.

“Murdoch University Dubai can confirm that one of our students has passed away today.

We wish to express our sincere condolences to family members, friends and colleagues. We are working closely with the relevant authorities. The University is also providing counselling services to all students and staff.”
