'Stranger danger' alert after attempted abduction outside Dubai private school

Parents warned to be vigilant after stranger tried to lure child into car

Parents and pupils have been urged to be extra vigilant after a stranger tried to lure a child into a car outside a private school in Dubai.

The incident took place at 7.10am outside Gems Dubai American Academy in the suburb of Barsha on Tuesday, radio station ARN News reported.

It came to light when the nearby American School of Dubai sent a message to parents on Wednesday.

ARN reported that the suspect approached the child and said he knew the year 4 pupil's father, and offered him sweets to get into his car.

The child is said to have ignored the man, entered his school and raised the alarm.

The suspect has been described as "dark-skinned, wearing a black baseball cap" and "driving a black vehicle".

"The incident outside one of our schools was brought to our immediate attention and we confirm that all our students are safe. The matter is now being investigated by the authorities," a representative for Gems Education said.
