Stop neglecting your children, Ruler says

The head of Ajman flays parents who are not passing on morals and traditions to their children and are neglecting them by having them raised by nannies.

Parents are not passing on morals and traditions to their children and are neglecting them by having them raised by nannies, the Ruler of Ajman said yesterday. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid said parental responsibility was often handed to someone hired by the family because parents were too busy to raise children themselves, WAM, the state news agency, reported. In the past, fathers would teach sons about morality and traditions by taking them to councils to learn from their elders, he said.

Because parents were no longer consistently filling this role, it was important for schools to bridge the gap in the child's education, said Sheikh Humaid, a member of the UAE Supreme Council. Teaching morality should be one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Education, he said, stressing the importance of good conduct from preschool to university. "Implanting ethics of truth, morality and love of work in the current generation is our work," Sheikh Humaid said.

When they become adults, citizens need to know the importance of UAE values as well as the role they play in society, he said. He was speaking at a seminar organised by the Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Foundation for Human Development, held at the Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. @Email:amcmeans@thenational.ae
