ABU DHABI // Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is offering a series of open courses in art, history and other subjects taught by university lecturers in French, Arabic and English. The first course, on the "Unities and Diversities of Gulf Countries", begins on March 2 and consists of 10 lectures over three months. Subjects will include the archaeological history of the UAE, the geopolitics of the Arabian Gulf and businesswomen in the Gulf.
A second series of lectures, which will cover the history of western art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, will start on March 8. Among the topics covered will be classical painting and modern iconography. Each cycle will cost Dh2,500 (US$680). Prof Xavier Galmiche, academic director of Paris-Sorbonne, said in a written statement that no prior subject knowledge was required to enrol. "It is a unique non-degree educational programme given by university teachers and expert guests," he said. "It sheds new light on new and traditional themes of reflection and culture in the humanities, law and even economic sciences."
Participants will have access to the Paris-Sorbonne's library and will be given a certificate, but no diploma or qualification.
