A soldier drove his car into a police officer then crashed into a patrol vehicle while attempting to escape arrest, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

At 7.30am on August 21, Dubai Police officers patrolling Al Rafaa were called to help criminal investigation officers from Abu Dhabi arrest a 30-year-old Emirati solider.

Court records did not disclose why the man was wanted by Abu Dhabi Police.
"We were told that Abu Dhabi officers had an official arrest warrant and so we headed to the location of the defendant outside Raffles Hotel in Dubai," said an Emirati policeman.

The defendant was attempting to escape in his car so police parked to block his way.

"He tried to reverse his car when we blocked his way then drove towards the exit," the 23-year-old policeman said.
He said he stood to block the defendant's car but the man continued driving and hit him intentionally before he crashed into the patrol car and sped off," said the officer who suffered injuries to his left  knee.
Court records did not disclose when the defendant was arrested and on Wednesday, the man did not attend court to face charges of assaulting a police officer and damaging a police car.
The court will issue a verdict on November 29.
